Is School Uniform Important? by Roneeza


Learning Intention- we are learning to write a explanation why school uniforms are important.
Success Criteria: I know I am successful when I can write the explanation in a paragraph form.

School uniform are important because people will know which school you go to. We wear our full uniform because it makes us look smart, clean and tidy. Our uniform represent our school.

School uniform is important because other people will say how neat we looks. It makes us look handsome and pretty. We wear our uniform because our school is not a fashion place. If we are not wearing uniforms our parents will buy lots of clothes and, it will be a waste of money.

School uniform is important because we are proud of our school.

Is Olympic games important? by George

L.I.-W.A.L.T.-to explain why Olympic games are important.

Success Criteria  I am successful when I can explain about the importance of the Olympic games in full sentence with correct punctuation and capital letters.

Olympic games are important because it is a contest of different sports. You can play different kinds of sports and if you win any of the Olympic games you are the best person in that sport.When you are in the Olympics you must show respect and sportsmanship.

The torch bearer carry the torch and runs with it to the other country and gives it to the next person to run.The flag bearer is the one that holds the flag and represent their country.

If you win in a sport you can get a medal like gold, silver and bronze.

Success Criteria: I know I can do this when I can write an instructions in order using action words at the beginning  of a sentence.

Materials :T-shirt,pants,balloons, hair.

Steps:
1.Grab a balloon and blow it.

2.Rub the balloon on your hair or t-shirt.

3.Take the balloon which has been rubbed against material or your hair and given a charge of static electricity.

4.Put the balloon on your head and you will notice that the hair goes up and stick on to the balloon.

5.Was the goal achieved?

History of Flame and Torch;
The ancient Greeks believed  that fire was given to humankind by "Prometheus" and considered to have a sacred qualities. Mirrors were used to focus the sun rays to ignite flames that would burn perpetually in from of the Greek temples.The Olympic flame began in 1936 in Berlin games. 3,330 runners brought the torch with flames.

Host country - Spain,Barcelona

Last torch lighter - Antonia Rebollo - Basketball-

The only Paralympian ever to light the Olympic cauldron, Rebollo shot a flaming arrow over an open natural gas cauldron to ignite it.

The 1992 -Summer Olympics torch relay was run from May 7th until July 28th,Prior to 1992 Summer Olympics into in Barcelona.The route covered around 59,400 kilometres.                            ( 36,900 mi) and involved  9,484 torch bearers.

2004 Summer Olympic by George and Roneeza


Learning Intentionwe are learning to write  about the 2004 Summer Olympics.
Success Criteria: I know I can do this when I can give information about the 2004  Summer Olympic torch.

History of the flame:
The ancient Greeks believed that fire was given to the humankind by " Prometheus " and considered to have a sacred qualities. 
Mirrors " were used to focus the sun rays  to ignite flames that would burn perpetually in front of the Greek Temples. The Olympic flame began in 1936 in Berlin games. 3,300 runners brought the torch with flames.
Today, the Olympic flame is lit in front of ruins of the Temple of Hera in Olympia, Greece.

Host country: Athens, Greece

First torch lighter: Kostas Gatsioudis-  Silver medallist in Running. 


Last torch lighter: Nicolas Kaklamanakis- Silver medallist in Sailing.

Meaning of the torch design:  The country was insp
ired by an Olive Leaf. The design was selected to enhance the flame with its upward dynamic shape. Its ergonomic curved design establish the torch as the continuation of the flame, which in turn rises as a continuation of the torch bearers hand. It is made of metal (magnesium) and wood (Olive tree.) It also represents the fire seemed to come straight from the torchbearers hand.
